Broken Infinity Necklace w/ Earrings
With the assignment to make a unique chain in my Art Metals class, I decided to base my design off of the idea of the mathematical sign for infinity. The sideways figure 8 is a very dynamic shape in itself, but I wanted to play with the idea of what happens when I would break that symbol and morph it into new shapes with new meanings. By using varying gauges of real silver and bronze wire, I designed a chain necklace with three different types of chain links; the dark silver resembling the closest to the original infinity symbol, the white silver creating an abstract version of the infinity symbol, and the bronze oval connected the two silver links together.
To accompany the necklace, I made a pair of earrings to match with my remaining silver wire. These echo the idea of the broken infinity sign; they show that anything with a beginning must have an end to it.
